The most positive men are the most credulous.
Jonathan Swift
“Five…four…three…two…one…Happy New Year!”New Year’s.Eve”: The mother of all anchors. For many people, it’s an opportunity to remember the things they most want to forget. But Its also a time for endings and new beginnings; for moving away from things gone awry. It’s a time for learning to put your attention where you want it most– as opposed to amplifying the very things that do not serve you in any way. In short, it’s finding the courage to look forward; or to find rhyme or reason in one’s life. This poem is dedicated to “beginning again” and moving toward a future in which anything is possible….A year has come, a year has gone. Its time to pause, reflect upon, what still remains, what had to change–priorities to rearrange. These thoughts with loved ones we exchange.A year has come, a year has gone…A year has come, a year has gone.In deep lament, we spin a yarn,of things that were or should have been.Of failing auras, endless din, with shallow breathing and tension.A year has come, a year has gone…A year has come, a year has gone.Yet thoughts of gloom continue on.A sudden loss– of job or love,in either case from up above, left open wounds and edges rough.A year has come, a year has gone…A year has come, a year has gone.We “wash our hands” of what we scorn.Quick! Where’s the ‘sink’ where this is done?I, too, have things I wish to shun.A way out from the web I’ve spun.A year has come, a year has gone…A year has come, a year has gone.A time to play the cards we’ve drawn.Report card time, review your “worth” –an old acquaintance in rebirth. Can resources change sighs to mirth?A year has come, a year has gone…A year has come, a year has gone.Nowhere to hide; nowhere to run.Beliefs that guide us– sow our fate,A new beginning; a clean slate.A year has come, a year has gone… A year has come, a year has gone.No time to waste, disdain or mourn. With new found meanings, change your mind, and useful outcomes well-defined,lead to behaviors well-designed.A year has come, a year has gone…A year has come, a year has gone. With resolution we move on.A positive outlook, balanced scales. When all else fails, a few tall tales.A pause refreshing soothes what ails.A year has come, a year has gone…A year has come, a year has gone.We toast the night and beckon dawn.A new beginning, free from stress, chaste and absent of duress,to build new meanings for success.A year has come, a year has gone…A year has come, a year has gone.A bright tomorrow look upon.New goals, objectives set the pace, and useful beliefs do we embrace;so with success next year to face,a year has come… and a year has gone.
